Yakshagana Sangha:

Yakshagana is a vibranttraditional theatre art that blends dance, music, dialogue, acting, costume, and stage techniques. Often called “Aata,” it remains a vigorous and livingcultural form. The Yakshagana Sangha aims to spread the virtues depicted inIndian mythology. It draws its themes mainly from the Ramayana, Mahabharata, and stories from the Puranas.
Its objectives include preserving fading elements of Yakshagana such as dancesteps, dialogues, and songs. It also focuses on training young enthusiasts inYakshagana dance. Another goal is to promote Yakshagana as a theatre artglobally. The Sangha works to preserve traditional dance drama, musicalharmony, costumes, makeup, and authentic performance styles. Improvisedgestures and extemporaneous dialogue are also retained as part of its heritage.
Major activities begin with orientation and representative selection. Studentslearn basic taala and rhythmic patterns. They are introduced to prasadana, which includes makeup and costume techniques. A demonstration of the Himmela, the musical background team, is provided. Training includes mudras and the ninefacial expressions of Navarasa. Learners practice traditional dance steps. Theprogram concludes with visits, field trips, performance analysis, and focusedtraining in Taala-Maddale.
